Romeo and Juliet play review

Romeo and Juliet is about two star cross lovers who are pulled apart by fate and lineage. They posses a deep sense of forbidden love which Shakespeare seemed to create masterfully in a realistic vision. The play as a whole was good but was lacking in some parts for me personally. The music was modern, this would have been appropriate if the setting was changed to and earlier time but it was not the setting was still of old age and they still spoke in Shakespearean dialects. So every time the music played in a transition of scenes I was pulled out of the play and placed in this uneasy feeling where I felt the story wasn't real. The dancing also was modernized and felt very raw and unfitting to the setting and time. The acting though was remarkable, the people playing each part really submerged them selves into each role no matter how small.
Juliet was a spectacular  actress. She relayed paragraphs  of mologues and narrative which really pulled the audience into the story and gave them a true pure understanding of Juilets troubles. Juilets  was powerful till the end bringing me to tears even though i had seen the play about ten times on previous occasions, one of them being on the Hartford stage. Juliet brought the house down, her tone and presence was prominent and you could feel every thought and emotion flow from her body.
I also liked the girl servant who couldn't read at the beginning. She stood out to me every time she got onstage because her voice was loud and full of joy. I could see the pure enthusiasm seeping through her when she spoke. She was comedic relief and made me laugh on many occasions. Even when she didnt say anything and was just standing in the background you could still tell this girl was a very talented actress. I love watching the ensemble because its filled with so much untapped and hidden talent that is yet to be explored and shown to its fullest. I would love to see that girl going places on broadway and truely wowing an audience because she seems to really have that secret ability to capture an audience like Juilet does.
The stanging was spectacular, my personal favorite part was when the actors went off stage into the audience and really interacted with us. It made me feel like i was really apart of the show. The costumes were ok. Some of the costumes were completely modern, and others were not. It kind of made me confused on seeing which era  this play was really in in a sense. The set was spectacular and had so much detail and spotless craftsmanship to it. It really pulled me back into the show when my focus was faltered by things like the modern music, dancing and costumes. The props were also amazing. Everything they pulled out looked believable and the swords seemed so real and life like. The actors true ability to show death by putting the white sheets over the people's body's was very interesting. It showed me athe true art in portraying death and did it in a subtitle meaningful way that seemed so civilized and moving. Juliet and Romeo seemed smiliar  in the sense that they both have love they cannot hold because of the judgement and expectations of others. If their relatives didn't hold such a strong grudge against each other  get they would not have felt the need to hold back or fake death just to be with another. People are important, just one action could change a whole life or save a whole life. I think one of the strongest scenes in the play was when the father forced his daughter to accept Princes proposal. He truely showed a power vs powerlessness and depicted the full hatred and anger which caused Juilet to move to such drastic measures just to be with her true love. He wasn't understanding at the least , his wife also was a culprit in the fact that she dint even stand up for Juilet to help her find what she really desires. Juilets mother was the exact opposite of Rose from fences in the fact that she did nothing to help Juliet while Rose did everything ti help her kids when her husband was against them. Troy and Juilets dad though are very alike in the sense that they are holding their kids back, they both in the end though end up unhappy. Troy ends up dead and Juilets dad ends up with a dead child.
The theme of the play was definitely love conquers all. Juilet tans Romeo throughout the whole ordeal of the plot loved each other. They didnt listen to others who judged them and still met every night for the rush of true love to over come them night after night. Romeo even after killing Tibolt still held Juilets love in his hands. They both were so passionate, true and admirable especially with the trials they had to face through it all. Juilet even after seeing dead Romeo next to her killed herself just to be with the one she loves in heaven. Not all would do that, because most humans fear death and where it will lead them. She and Romeo were brave in the fact that they took death head on only of one another.
